Objective
Nowadays, in Europe millions of plastic packaging trays are used and exposed of daily. Proposers have developed a new tray, which is made of cardboard and can be recycled and is suitable as organic waste. This product is patented. The goal of this project is to develop a production machine for this innovative product. In the development of the box it was taken into account that the eventual production unit has to be able to produce large numbers of these boxes in a short time. One of the main advantages of this production unit is that the production speed will be at least 4 times higher than with the present production methods and that the product can be imprinted online, if desired in full colour. The ink for printing will be water based and approved by the Food Industry. The production unit will be able to produce a whole range of different sizes of boxes. Currently, the cardboard boxes are higher in price than the plastic ones. In optimising the production method the boxes are going to have a much lower price level than initially. Moreover, with no waste disposal fee (as is often the case with plastic trays) prices are expected to become even lower than those of plastic boxes.
