Recycling of pvb from automotive wind screens

Objetivo

The European directive for end-of-life vehicles (2000/53/EC) requires European automotive manufacturers to take back their cars for "disposal" beginning in 2006. In addition, the directive includes recovery targets of at least 85 percent (with 80 percent reuse/recycling) by 2006 and at least 95 percent (with 85 percent reuse/recycling) by 2015. The burden to meet the targets of limiting the proportion of an ELV that could be land filled will inevitably fall, in part, upon car windscreens. The aim in this project is to recycle the expensive plastic, PVB, from car windscreens. Car windscreens contain a PVB-interlayer to ensure safety in accidental breakage. The two problems in this project to solve are:
(i) how to separate the PVB from the glass and other contaminants and
(ii) what to do with the PVB?
