Objective
British Steel's world class Swinden Technology Centre in Rotherham offers three Two-Year Post Doctoral Fellowships to develop finite elements models of metal deformation under lubrication and apply them to the hot and cold rolling of various steel products, in order to improve product surface quality and extend the life of the rolls. We have pioneered multidisciplinary modelling developments using in-house and commercial code with the aim of creating an integrated through process-to-product model, which will enable new products to be rapidly developed in a virtual rolling mill without the need for expensive plant trials and the associated consumption of energy and other vital resources. Excellent experimental and computational facilities are available to the Fellow. Fellows will also benefit from British Steel's accredited professional development programmes and from extensive networking opportunities within the company, with other steel makers, suppliers, customers, users, universities and research institutes throughout the UK and the rest of Europe. Applicants should have experience in finite element analysis of metal deformation and/or tribology. Recruitment opportunities into British Steel will be available to successful Fellows.
