Durability and reliability of railway wheel sets (TRANSMEC)

Exploitable results

The Transmec project's principal goal was to set up Centre of Excellence. The centre would initiate and strengthen international cooperation in railway wheel sets issues research and education. Adopted measures have made the integration of the Polish research centres into the European Research Area easier (strategic target). The Transmec Centre of Excellence was intended to focus on doing research/education work related to rail transport, and in particular to wheel sets issues. It was propose to strengthen existing and establish new contacts the leading universities and research centres abroad. Some of proposed activities were: - international scientific and educational co-operation; - organising conferences and workshops; - participating in joint European research projects; - disseminating research results; - enabling flow of information between research centres from EU Member States; - promoting new research management methods; - providing more attractive educational opportunities (post-graduate studies and training courses for industry workers and junior scientists); - developing new teaching/research procedures; - supporting and promoting participation of industrial companies and SMEs in international research projects; - harmonising Member States regulations on railway wheel sets with EU standards; - dissemination of information on the centre. The Centre of Excellence has been established and it has played an important role in initiating and strengthening international co-operation within scope of European Research Area since.
