System level optimisation and control tools for diesel exhaust aftertreatment

Objective

Envisaged emission standards for passenger car Diesel engines do not allow to optimise the behaviour of individual components of a Diesel engine exhaust system that will become the most import and design issue in future. The objective of this project therefore is to develop a generally applicable user-friendly software toolkit for the computer-aided engineering of complete Diesel engine exhaust systems that meet Euro 4 and beyond emission standards. The simulation tool will be extensively validated via laboratory and engine bench tests. Selected demonstrator cases will show the optimisation potential of the simulator toolkit. The project consists of eight partners from five different European countries with devices and low emission Diesel engines.
