Guidelines for electromagnetic compatibility modelling for automotive requirements (GEMCAR)

Objective

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) will be crucial for the success of all future vehicle technologies which aim to improve transport and reduce its environmental impact. Thus, it is expected that EMC will become an increasingly onerous burden to vehicle manufacturers unless numerical modelling can be applied in this field. This project aims to develop a comprehensive set of guidelines for practical electromagnetic modelling in automotive applications, based on detailed validation of models of real vehicles. These guidelines will be widely disseminated and will speed the adoption of EMC modelling techniques within the automotive industry, thus improving competitiveness. The guidelines will also be of value in other transport sectors, such as the rail and aerospace industries.
