Reduction of co2-impact by weight reduction achieved by bending and hydroforming of steel and aluminium tubular parts for body and chassis applications.

Objective

This project intends to enhance the capability in designing and manufacturing structural parts with high strength and stiffness and low weight by the use of hydro forming of closed sections. The overall aim is to reduce the weight of vehicles hence, to support the reduction of CO2 emissions. The overall process development and optimisation is intended, including the activities from the choice of the material, the preparation of the tube (bending, pre-forming) to the subsequent hydro forming step. Experimental and virtual procedures are considered as well as the process parameters and control optimisation. Besides the skills to design for hydro forming, a methodology for the virtual feasibility verification and complete process chain set up will be developed during the project, transferred to the end user and applied on two significant car components.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
