Objective
Decreased fuel consumption for vehicles is found when operating with large excess of oxygen, lean-burn. The main drawback is that it will increase the combustion temperature in the engine, enhancing the formation of nitrogen oxides (NOx): mainly nitrogen monoxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2).
This project will develop catalytic systems for continuous NOx reduction for Lean Burn cars through basic and applied research:
- Improvement of silver on alumina and dual pore size zeolite catalysts.
- Evaluation of denox promoting or inhibition effects due to fuel and exhaust composition.
- Scale-up of catalytic systems from laboratory, through pilot to full-scale production.
Successful catalyst will be tested at realistic conditions to show the potential to comply with the EU standards for emission.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
