Objective
Response Monitoring is a tool to monitor the motion and stress condition of a ship or marine structure in order to reduce the risks of structural failure caused by heavy weather conditions and fatigue, to minimise loss of lives, pollution, damage to cargo and to improve passenger comfort. Existing response monitoring systems cover only motions and global structural responses. There is a need for refined methodologies to be able to assess the stress levels at a number of critical locations within the structure, with an affordable number of stress sensors. The HullMon+ project aims at the development of such methodologies and to verify them through case studies. HullMon+ also aims at the development and verification of an intelligent operator guidance system.
