Advanced methods for improved child safety

Objective

The CHILD project uses as a basis research undertaken in the CREST project SMT4-CT95-2019.It addresses many issues that are researched in other EC projects in relation to adult vehicle occupants, but about which little is known for children. The objectives are to increase the level of knowledge in areas regarding children and to use the information in the applications of child restraint design, evaluation testing and regulation. The outputs include an invaluable source of real world crash injury data, real and virtual reconstructions of such cases, child based simulation methods and tools, including human and dummy models for some body segments, further evaluation of the Q child dummies, child injury criteria and risk curves for different ages and body segments. All this information will be consolidated in the context of child restraint testing and regulations.
