Integrated development routes for optimised cast aluminium components

Objective

The most important objective of the project is the efficient integration of the various tools of process simulation into design chain, to optimise aluminium castings all the way, from design to prototype production. This "horizontal" integration software will lead the designer to the best possible use of Aluminium for automotive castings, making lighter components and thus decreasing the fuel consumption and reducing CO2-emissions. This integrated approach will be tested on three demonstrator components, designed and produced:
1) optimising the casting process;
2) predicting, by micro structural models, the mechanical properties in the castings;
3) exporting the results of process and properties simulation to commercial FE-codes for further calculation;
4) demonstrating (and evaluating the effect of) new and conventional post casting treatments, that will improve the performance of castings and thus facilitate light weight design.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
