Objective
With the proposed RTD-project, an integrated technology package for improved cooling methods and numerical aero thermal tools for the design of complex 3D turbo machinery components is submitted. The exploitation of the results will result in a more efficient use of cooling flows and lighter and cheaper component designs. Thereby, efficiency and life of turbines will be increased, whilst emission and costs will be decreased. The combined experimental, analytical and numerical approach faces by seven work packages the most challenging issues, such as: heat transfer and film cooling under separated flow (WP1&2), heat transfer and cooling concepts for turbine end walls (WP3, 4&5) and validation and optimisation of the whole CFD-process in an industrial environment (WP6). Nearly all the European aero-engine manufacturers will care for a fast assimilation of the technologies and design tools into competitive and environmentally friendly products (WP7).

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
