Objective
The objective of LOADNet is to establish cost effective photonic network technologies and through-life support procedures for on-board aircraft data communications applications. This will be achieved by the identification, evaluation and adaptation of low cost commercial optical data transmission technology. The consortium comprises key members of the supply chain, from optical component/sub-system vendors, through equipment suppliers, to airframe manufacturers, and is further complemented by the participation of world-class academic groups. The trade-offs between airframe requirements, functional environmental performance, and life-cycle costs can thus be properly resolved. Optical physical layer developments will be based on commercial photonic components that will re-package where appropriate to yield low cost, physically robust data communications hardware. Data link and network layer studies, as well as physical layer modelling activities will support component/device developments and ultimately provide design tool capabilities. Risk reduction will be achieved through the design, development, and evaluation of network, architectures, physical layer components, and through-life support procedures. The project partners through the AECMA, ARINC, and SAE organisations will actively pursue this goal.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
