Objective
Over the next twenty years, the civil engine market will be worth $500 billon. Success in this market will depend on the engine markers' ability to provide more reliable and more cost effective aero gas turbines. The present proposal addresses the problem of how to design robust aerofoils to fully benefit from new technologies, such as bladed disc, and meet the priorities of Key Action 4, New Perspectives in Aeronautics, aimed to enhance the industry competitiveness. The approach considered will generate lifting methodologies able to quantify the fatigue performance associated with modern aerofoil design, surface condition and foreign object damage resistance. Central to this is the development of a novel test technique and its implementation across partnership. The consortium comprises eight European engine manufacturers that will gain immediate access to the technique and methods and will set new standard across the European industry, two research institutes, one SME and one University will bring key specific skills and will co-ordinate their efforts with the engine makers to deliver modern lifting methodologies.
