Objective
European air transport is near breaking point. The number of delayed flights is already high and increasing. A common operational concept for European ATM is required which includes a greater level of autonomy for the aircraft. ASAS is a potential component in the solution together with other CNS technologies that shift the emphasis to the airborne element. To establish the common concept, the project will validate selected CNS technologies against a range of ATN scenarios. The work will build on EU and Euro control research to select and integrate appropriate technologies. The selected functionalities shall be realised in an avionic package integrated into an advanced flight deck simulator from the AVENUE project and exercised using ATM environments e.g. NARSIM and AVENUE platform at EEC. Certain elements will also be installed on an airborne platform to allow operational procedures to be validated.
