Objective
The immediate objective of VINTHEC II is to develop, assess and evaluate an objective measurement methodology, centred around eye point-of-gaze (EPOG), that can be used to assess flight deck crew coordination, in terms of both crews' shared situational awareness and their interaction with automated flight deck systems. Because the greatest accident risk in current commercial aviation operations seems to lie between human and machine, there is an urgent need for research into their coupling between crew coordination and interaction with flight desk automation. Improvement of the crew coordination process should lead to an enhancement of the operational capabilities as well as the safely of aircraft.
