Power optimised aircraft

Objetivo

The growth in airline customer needs has resulted in a major problem: an increase in power consumption. Current equipment systems which supply, generate, distribute, transmit and consume this power cause a second major problem: At aircraft level, the result of incremental steps in subsystem development is an inefficient use of on-board power. The objective of POA is to make available the capabilities necessary to provide equipment for next generation aircraft. POA will validate, at aircraft level and both quantitatively and qualitatively, the ability of alternative equipment systems to reduce the consumption of non-propulsive power. This will be done through reductions in peak and total non-propulsive power, fuel consumption, weight and maintenance costs. At the same time POA will validate an increase in reliability and no increase in production costs, both at aircraft level. To provide the validation, aircraft representative testing on a Virtual Iron Bird, an Engine Systems Rig and an Aircraft Systems Rig will be performed. This will provide the industry with capabilities, validated equipment, new validation platforms and new standards for next generation equipment technologies, defining a technological breakthrough.
