Objective
The proposal contributes to the objectives of FP5, i.e. increasing thrust to weight ratio by 40% and improving SFC and thus reducing CO2 emissions by 20% using design methods which make use of transition effects in unsteady flow. Efficient transition models based on the physical understanding of transition induced by wakes, potential disturbances and surface roughness will be developed and validated by experimental testing. These models are applied to the numerical analysis of new designs of highly loaded axial gas turbine blades. Experimental, and numerical results are collected in a unique database, which will enhance the physical understanding of transition considerably and facilitate future validation of transition models.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
