Modular avionics for light vehicles in aeronautics

Objective

The purpose of this proposal is to define and validate a new generation of avionics equipment communication system for single pilot IFR light aircraft and helicopter operations. The overall architecture is addressed by MALVINA proposal. The final objective is to standardize and validate a CORE AVIONICS OPEN ARCHITECTURE based on low cost, wide spread automotive data bus like the CAN bus, which will allow any equipment manufacturer conforming to the standard to plug in with a minimum of burden. The proposed work will allow the modular avionics architecture design and specification. A demonstrator will prototype the architecture with plugged in equipment. These equipment will be adaptation of existing equipment or simulators. Addressed equipment are flight sensors, cockpit displays, navigation and communication units and engine sensors. The Project proposal is born in a SME and is SME led and oriented. An important effort is allocated to the dissemination plan to ensure MALVINA architecture standard recognition as large as possible. The economic analysis will be updated and an exploitation plan will be issued in the course of the project
