Objective
I-WAKE is aimed at improving air transport operational capacity and safety by developing on-board integration of an instrumentation system for remote detection, warning and avoidance of wake-vortices, clear air turbulence and dry wind-shear. Lidar remote detection has been proven by ground experimentation. I- WAKE work-plan is
(a) to study on-board integration of Lidar and other contributing sensors,
(b) to evaluate wake-vortex cockpit warning devices and to test wake-vortices avoidance maneuvers by flight simulator tests,
(c) to perform flight tests for wake-vortex detection and evaluation of clear air turbulence detection capability,
(d) to develop technologies for affordable future European system and
(e) to develop automatic wake-vortex pattern recognition. To achieve these challenges, the best European experts combine their skills in the project. I- WAKE results will lead directly to system production within 4 to 5 years.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
