Objective
The aim of the project is to assess the feasibility of an integrated tilt rotor drive system, including main transmission and all mechanisms to control rotation, of the nacelle and the outer portion of the wing in accordance with the European Tilt rotor solution (ERICA). The challenge to attain the planned costs, weight and reliability of this non-conventional configuration, requires a design with judicious use of new generation (composite) materials, emerging technologies of gear teeth design and architecture, improved Health and Usage Monitoring philosophies (as sensors and operating software), innovative manufacturing processes together with the need to improve the confidence in analytical design tools. The above assessment will be done by design, manufacture and test a full -scale drive system article.
