Objective
The proposal addresses the problem of meeting increased fire safety regulations in the expanding market of private and executive aircraft with the consumer demands for unique, aesthetically pleasing interior fabrics from rare fibers such as alpaca and mohair. The aim is to design a model science and technology to ensure each unique fabric will pass the required fire test criteria.
The objectives are:
1. to analyze existing fabrics which match the new fire regulations
2. to produce experimental fabrics using fiber, yarn and fabric variables
3. to select and apply suitable flame retardant finishes and determine their effect
4. to produce a model to predict the optimal fabric parameters which guarantee a pass when tested. Prototype materials will be subject to performance tests according to the relevant European and international standards.
