Objetivo
In winter, ice build-up on aircrafts waiting for take-off is a serious safety concern. De-icing fluids are used to remove frozen precipitation, such as snow or ice from the aircraft wings, tail, rudder, landing gear, and fuselage. Aircraft de-icing fluids (ADF), as applied, are a mixture of about 50 weight %water and 50% Glycol that is pressure sprayed at temperatures up to 70°Cin order to melt and wash office. An airport such as Frankfurt spends up to 300.000 Euro for ADF per day. Another very important economic aspect is the time required for the de-icing operation since a time-efficient de-icing is vital for keeping a flight time schedule. By developing a new innovative deicing system it will be possible to avoid the adverse effects associated with aircraft de-icing operations and to improve the safety of the working environment with significant economic and environmental benefits.
