Objective
To avoid the generation of solid by-products estimated around 50 millions tons per year in Europe, the design of an original on-line metallurgical treatment is proposed. A consortium involving the steel industry, the coal based power plants (Eastern Europe), the scrap industry (SME), the cement industry and a steel engineering company will develop a clean fusion-reduction technology for converting these adequately mixed by-products into valuable mineral and metallic materials. The metallic products will be used by the steel industry (carbon and alloyed steel grades) while the mineral components will benefit to the cement industry as substitutes of the Portland clinker allowing to reduce by 25% the CO2 emissions from that sector.
