Objective
The objective of the project is to expand the durability of motor vehicle catalysts by (i) improvements in ceramic support properties and (ii) by regeneration of used catalysts through removal of chemical poisons by dissolving or by extraction and/or reactivation of active sites by thermo/chemical treatments in order to recover the metal area lost by sintering. Attention will be paid to the damage imposed by the severe conditions under which catalysts are subjected while in use or that regeneration procedures may cause to ceramic honeycomb. New ceramic materials will be prepared that withstand the regeneration procedures and/or with higher resistance to deterioration. The best regeneration procedures will be environmental and economically evaluated in order to estimate its commercial viability.
