Recycling of fibre reinforced plastic waste: processing and applications

Objective

In Europe every year 1,500,000 tons of Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRP) are produced. All this FRP material will return as waste, for which, at this moment, is no solution but land filling. In Europe today land filling of this material is no option anymore and will be prohibited in the near future. This project will take care of the bottlenecks which prevent recycling from becoming reality. The main objective of this project is finding solutions to the FRP-waste problem by means of mechanical recycling. Therefore, innovative and economically self providing techniques for collection/logistics and size reduction will be developed as well as new application possibilities for recycle. As result of this project, FRP recycling will realize a new industrial sector of four processing plants for 80,000 tons waste each. Also direct savings will be obtained up to 150 Euro/ton new FRP as resources can be replaced.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
