Ferromagnetic semiconductors and novel magnetic - semiconductor heterostructures for improved knowledge on spintronics

Objective

The Fertile project addresses the research and development of ferromagnetic semiconductor materials and heterostructures as a novel materials for electronic and optoelectronic applications. The objectives of the project are the realisation of ferromagnetic semiconductors based on GaAs and GaN. We aim at developing these materials using Molecular Beam Epitaxial growth and to fully characterize the magnetic, electrical and optical properties. Further, the experimental effort is supported by theoretical modelling of all-important physical properties. Based on the achievements in uniform thin film growth and the predictions from theoretical work, various heterostructures will be fabricated. This will enable to explore the potential of novel devices based on the electronic spin degree of freedom provided by the ferromagnetic semiconductor materials, which is not yet fully exploited in today’s (opto-) electronic components

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: https://op.europa.eu/en/web/eu-vocabularies/euroscivoc.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
