Objective
The objective of the SPAN project is the development of antimicrobial oligomers and their incorporation in the conventional polymers or the chemical modification of polymeric materials bearing appropriate functional groups with antimicrobial properties. The resulted specialty materials will remain effective for a prolonged period and simple in use without causing any hazard to environment. Furthermore the approach will be economically more efficient than previous techniques. Novel antimicrobials will be applied and tested in different applications: Pharmaceutical packaging, fishnets and underwater constructions as well as yarns and fibers.
