In-process structured hard coatings for microlubrication

Objectif

The scientific objective is to analyze and describe the mechanisms of minimum lubrication of topographically microstructure surfaces at high contact pressure in metal forming processes. The main deliverable will be a coating deposition process which can be used to produce hard coatings with such microstructures. The project responds to the societal needs: reduces waste, promotes use of bio- degradable lubricants, assists use of recyclable materials, retains and creates new jobs in metal industry, and improves quality of life. The technical objective is to reduce up to 99% the amount of lubricants in metal forming, control friction coefficient and to develop an industrial deposition technology for the in-process structuring of hard coatings, which is cost-competitive to existing PVD deposition processes.
