Objective
There is a great need for more environmental-friendly reclamation of zinc from electric arc furnace dust. This project focuses on a method to transform the unleachable zinc ferrite in the dust into a leachable zinc oxide achieving two final products, zinc ferrite and zinc metal, and no waste. This method can be combined with two suggested alternative methods for pre-treatment in the steel plant using excess heat.
