Development of new ternary silver alloys resistant to sulfidation

Objective

Silver alloys are advanced metals whose demand is based on 2 main pillars: 'electronic industry' and 'jewellery and silverware'. However, a major problem of silver alloys is that they are prone to sulfidation. There is also a strong potential to replace noble metals (gold and palladium) by silver alloys resistant to sulfidation, taking into account that silver cost 30 times less than Gold. In the field of Jewels and silverware, silver tend to darken which is aesthetically unacceptable. Ternary silver alloys have hardly been investigated but showed better resistance to sulfidation and therefore will be studied in this project. Ternary silver alloys will be manufactured by co-sputerring with 3 targets. Developed alloys should fulfill technical specifications from the electric & silverware industry

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
