Objective
The proposal will meet an industrial need for an environmentally compatible technology to apply heavy-duty polymer coatings on large components in-house or outside structures on-site. The very recent advances in bulk nanocomposites will be extended to produce a new class of polymer coating hitherto unobtainable and with properties far superior to those of existing coatings. The research will develop new synthesis methods for powders in which the nanophase interacts with the polymer matrix on a molecular scale. A new technique for processing particles in a thermo-kinetic window will be designed based on spray-deposition and simultaneous near-infrared radiation. The coatings will be evaluated in the context of potential industrial applications.
