Conversion of contamined sediments into coating materials

Objective

In almost every European harbor the disposal of contaminated dredged material resulting of maintenance of certain water depth is a big problem. Main objective of the proposed project is to work out an optimized technology for recycling highly contaminated, fine-grained sediments into thin surface coatings. The proposed technology implements the de-watering, treatment, melting and coating of the dredged materials. Coatings made of recycled sediments can be a substitute for ceramic coatings, e.g. wear resistant coatings or thermal barrier coatings. Research tasks include sediment characterization, the identification of process requirements examination of the de-watering / treatment properties and the melting properties, the development of a coating application technology, product design, material testing, environmental impact assessment, economical assessment, pilot tests and field tests.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
