Objective
The collection, disposal of hospital wastes, sharpes and diapers in a process which requires a lot of human effort and use of one-way packaging material. The final incineration of these kinds of wastes is a process with high environmental loads and high costs, which are largely determined by the weight of the waste and the packaging. Nowadays several packaging systems are available with a reasonable high weight compared to the actual contents. This leads to higher costs of waste collection, transportation and the final disposal (incineration or sterilization combined with household waste incineration or landfill). The aim of the project is to develop a new packaging system for clinical hospital wastes, diapers and sharps. Present systems costs too much, consist of too much packaging material and have a limited functionality. The objectives are to research and develop prototypes of new low weight packaging types using new materials.
