Planning the european research area in metrology (MERA)

Objective

The aim of this Initiative is to increase significantly the impact of European research effort by strengthening the coherence of national and EU funded research activities and policies conducted in Europe. This proposal will lay the foundations for such an European Research Area in the field of Metrology. Innovation is often dependant on good measurement. A coherent European approach to metrology research will facilitate scientific and technological growth and competitiveness in Europe. This activity will include a review of current collaboration in Europe, identification of research trends, an examination of the scenarios for the structure of metrology research in Europe, the development of decisions making tools, a workshop to examine the issues and disseminate the tools , an analysis at national level and a second workshop delivering a plan for the implementation of an ERA in MetrCilogy in the sixth FP.
