Objective
The project will extend the applicability of the Ultrasound-Doppler Velocimetry to the range of high temperatures. Because the knowledge of the flow structure in opaque fluids has a large economical importance especially in branches like metallurgy or crystal growth technology, the interest is focused on flows of liquid metals. This project will allow the conception and development of an innovative measuring system that will determine real-time velocity profiles in high temperature liquid metals. Previous studies in special liquid metals at low temperatures (mercury, gallium) have proven the feasibility of this technique. One important issue of the project is the development of a transducer prototype for liquids of large economic relevance like liquid aluminium or steel.
