Microbiological certified reference materials in support of eu water legislation, performance testing and laboratory quality control. feasibility pilot study.

Objective

Tens of millions of water microbiological analysis are performed each year by European Public Health, Environmental Authorities and private Laboratories. Process monitoring, performance testing and control can be reached through the use of certified Reference Materials (CRMs), in addition to standardization, laboratory accreditation and participation in Proficiency Testing Schemes . The MICROCRM project is a feasibility study that will determine the conditions that are necessary to produce and certify key water microbiological RMs in support of EU Water legislations (Drinking Water and Bathing Water Directives). It will be implemented following a collaborative step by step strategy, including specifications, R&D, participant training session, round tests, market evaluation and workshop on Transport and Safety issues for microbiologic CRMs
