Certified reference materials for specific migration testing of plastics for food packaging needed by industry and enforcement laboratories (support to the development of)

Objective

To assure consumer protection, food contact plastic materials have to be tested for specific migration of certain monomers and additives. CRMs are needed to check the performance of the migration contact and to validate substitute fat tests, rapid alternative test methods and mathematical modeling methods as additional tools for cost effective compliance testing. In this project the know how and the ability to produce CRMs for specific migration will be developed with the certification parameters: migrant concentration in the material, diffusion coefficients and specific migration. From 16 polymer/migrant combinations developed as possible future CRMs, the 6 best suitable materials are selected and the feasibility for future CRM production will be demonstrated. Materials and results will be exploited for specific migration method validation and proficiency tests.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
