Objective
This project suggest to develop a new instrument (the Sputtering Storing Matter Instrument, SSMI) and use existing SIMS and XPS instruments for organic and inorganic applications:
- organic: the deposition of molecules on Silver substrates in the SSMI will increase the ionisation efficiency of the rnolecules by a factor of 100-1000 Molecules (licit and illicit drugs not yet detectable will be investigated).
- inorganic: by diluting the atoms on a clean/reproducible substrate in the SSMI, quantification of complex, layered, materials will be possible and detection limits in the ppm range are achievable.
This will allow characterization of surfaces or coatings and hence permit to secure patents and contribute to the fight against fraud.
