Objective
The wide use of doping substances is a growing problem in sport. The existing methods for anabolic steroids (AAS) are indirect, complicated, slow, quite expensive and include several possible sources of errors. The development of reference material as AAS conjugates and development of LC/MS method to detect them is needed. The collaboration between laboratories is necessary since the knowledge is not found in one laboratory. The synthesis and characterization of the reference materials will be finished in 2 years. Excretion studies and characterization of isolated glucuronide metabolites will start immediately after the synthesis is ready. The development of LC/MS methods and their validation and comparison to those already in practice will be performed by the end of 3rd year. The reference materials and the methods will be tested in doping control laboratories in Europe.
