Test methods on wear resistance and long-term stability of furniture surfaces

Objective

The aim of the project is the development of unified selected voted test methods for furniture surfaces in Europe to contribute to CEN TC 139 and CEN TC 207 WG 7. The contributions concern unified test methods on scratching, abrasion and impact resistance, on resistance against changing temperatures and climates, on light fastness resistance due to existing non-comparable national standards and will be complementary to the European standards on chemical resistance against cold liquids and resistance against dry and wet heat. Investigations and round robin tests with 9 partners from research institutes and industry of 8 European countries will obtain tests to reproduce quality and long time durability with high repeatability, reproducibility and objectivity. The methods to be developed are tools for the design process and for quality control in the production process in lacquer and furniture industry, improving their competitiveness.
