Measurement of properties of fresh self-compacting concrete (TESTING-SCC)

Objectif

Self-compacting Concrete (SCC) can be placed without the need for compaction. Its adoption in Europe will increase the competitiveness of the construction industry and generate benefits for workers and for people near construction sites. The dissemination of the technology is blocked by the lack of test methods to characterize the three key properties of the material in its fresh state - it should flow freely into formwork, should pass through reinforcement without blocking, and should not segregate. Conventional concrete does not have these attributes, and conventional test methods do not identify them. A number of test methods have been suggested, none of them entirely satisfactory, and the objective of the work is to examine these methods, and to propose new ones if necessary. The outcome will be recommendations for test methods to allow the introduction of SCC into general construction and to serve as a basis for future standardization.
