Thermal emissivity of energy-saving coatings on glass - preservation of the measurement infrastructure of the glazing industry (THERMES)

Objetivo

Emissivity, a key property in determining the energy-saving capability of glazing, is determined from the spectral reflectance, traditionally measured using a dispersive (grating) spectrophotometer. Recently, instrument manufacturers have switched over to producing the more modern Fourier Transform (FT) Spectrophotometers instead. For the purpose of the glass industry however, measurements obtained by different FT instruments often disagree significantly and the wavelength range that can be measured in a single configuration does not cover the necessary range. The aim of the project is to
(i) obtain a better understanding of these measurements and provide measurement recommendations for the industry,
(ii) develop suitable reflectance accessories for these new instruments and
(iii) develop an algorithm for predicting the spectral reflectance of coated glass in the missing wavelength range.
