Digital high-tc squid sensors for non destructive evaluation in unshielded environment

Objectif

Superconducting Quantum Devices (SQUIDs) can sense magnetic fields in ambient environment with a resolution of better than 1 pT/vHz. Such sensitivity allows, e.g. for the development of new and better Non Destructive Testing techniques. The current analogue operation of SQUIDs in quite simple cryogenic systems is not adequate for such industrial applications. Radically new ways have to be followed in the designs of the sensors, their electronic readout, the cooling and the overall system aspects. Digital HTS-SQUIDs will be applied with active digital feedback circuits incorporating advanced digital real-time filtering and pre-knowledge based active compensation of strong noise signals. We intend to reach a sensitivity of better than 1pT/sqrt(Hz) in an ambient background field of up to 50 µT and a slew rate of more than 106 flux quanta per second in a push-button system approach.
