Objective
Chemicals, foods and oils are all transported by road tankers. Whilst loading is carried out using volume control, the mass of material being loaded needs to be measured for safety and inventory control. These materials are sampled to prove that specifications are met. The samples must be litigation proof. Fuel oil being used by shipping is volume measured, proportionally sampled and analysed to ISO 3171. The information produced allows the engines to be set within design parameters to minimize emissions to atmosphere and reduce engine wear. The design and construction of a tamper proof, self powered, extremely accurate measuring/proportionally sampling device able to report either volume or mass for the road tanker, shipping or other transport markets will ensure that risks to the environmental and public health are reduced.
