Objective
The objective of the ESFA project is to develop a PC based expert system for failure analysis in high temperature plant. The system, in both text and pictorial format, will provide guidelines on diagnosis of failures and possible remedial measures at two levels: the basic level for plant engineer for on-site decisions, and more advanced level for long term solutions. ESFA will provide access to a library of case histories and high temperature plant components and materials, and, a catalogue of European plant experience and good engineering practices. In addition to increasing reliability of diagnosis. ESFA will reduce dependence of industry on the availability of experienced staff. ESFA will bring automation and efficiency to the failure analysis industry and harmonies interpretation of failures and remedial measures adopted across the national borders in Europe. ESFA is thus considered to be the first step towards standardisation of failure analysis practices in Europe.
