Objectif
The objective is to develop affordable, versatile and fast radioscopic inspection equipment for use in the energy producing sector, particularly directed towards gas turbines, wind mill fan blades and for corrosion monitoring of high temperature pipe systems. The need is expressed by a demand for versatile inspection technologies, in particular, and to the inspection tasks arising with the new energy producing technologies in western and eastern Europe. The technical issue concerns a new radioscopy detector of high versatility. Two designs are explored, a compact one for difficult inspection tasks and a general one for stationary use. The concept is explored as well for an entirely new and very cost-effective approach for tomographic imaging of complex shaped structures that cannot at present be inspected. R&D is concentrated on new exchangeable scintillators, tailored CCD cameras with hardware implemented imaging functionalities, special optics and image interpolation techniques. With one inspection system only, inspection of steel to carbon-based components will be possible, at resolutions from 25 to 500+ µm, and at a much reduced (x 0.25 - 0.5) cost.
