Objective
To demonstrate that Chaves geothermal field can support significant exploitation. Water temperature in existing shallow wells used for thermal baths is 76 deg. C. To drill two wells to 650 m depth located in a graben delineated by geophysical exploration and previous exploratory water wells. Expected characteristics are flow rate of 90 m3/h with 80 deg. C temperature at well head and 2,5 G/L salinity. First heat consumers will be a nearby hospital, swimming pool and hotel. At demonstration phase a simple plate heat exchanger installed close to the consumers will ensure by means a 1400 m network heating and sanitary hot water production. One of the first low enthalpy geothermal project in Portugal.
