GEOTHERMAL DISTILLATION FOR GREENHOUSE HEATING AND PRODUCTION OF FRESH WATER

Objective

To build, monitor and evaluate a novel geothermal device for heating greenhouses with simultaneous production of distilled water for watering.
Effective heating of the greenhouse by the experimental set up has been shown. Full researching of all necessary parameters as been provided. Difficulties have been met in the leak tightness of the Geostil, leading to several problems. Modification of the design of Geostil could possibly lead to a more effective device, useful where geothermal water is available.
The project consisted of 5 phases, from the initial design to the final evaluation of a novel device. This device, called Geostil, was installed in an experimental greenhouse in order to be tested and evaluated. The heating/distillation device devised is composed of iron canals, fed by the geothermal water, laid down in the greenhouse. They are covered with a plastic sheet in such a way that condensing water is collected separately for later use.
