Objective
To study the creation of a geothermal platform for experimental and applied tests. All the existing and innovative technology would be tested for the prevention and study of scaling and corrosion problems in geothermal wells. The study will include : the platform design, the site selection, site investigation, the construction plans, the organization and establishment of the demonstration programme. This laboratory, open to EEC researchers, would enable applied tests (see also GE/356/89/FR) to be carried out at true scale.
The study has shown that an existing geothermal site (Fontainebleau) can be converted, at minimal cost, into a test platform for the geothermal industry and research centres.
Several parties have given their moral support to such a venture while others are interested in using it to carry out tests on materials. The maximum conversion cost is FF 13,5 M for two years of use. European partners are being sought in order to establish common funding and the test programmes.
The study in question has three parts :
1. Evaluation of the cost of the different parts of a new geothermal doublet which can be used as a scientific platform.
2. Evaluation of the costs of conversion of five existing sites into scientific platforms, to determine which would give the best results for the least cost.
3. Determination of the legal structure best suited to this type of platform.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
